Before everything

Project Name

Before you read through this list of my most frequently asked questions there are some important things for you to consider before decided what session works best for your family.

The first thing is the ages of your children. If you have children 0-4 i highly recommend sticking close to home for your session, the reason for that is long drives before a shoot generally end up in sleepy or cranky kiddos and we want to make sure we set ourselves up for success before our sessions. If you have younger children you may want to opt for an at home session or feel free to ask me what locations could work close to home!

1. So we want to book a session, now what?

Once you have chosen a package that is right for your family ( see all options on 'prices and packages' page), contact me with the days of the week that work best for you and I will send you a few possible date options. Once we have finalized a date we will choose a location together, then I will send over a contract to be read and signed, a deposit will be needed to secure your date and then we are all set!

2. When is the best time of day for photos?

My favorite time of day for outdoor session are golden hour, which is early morning, shortly after sunrise or close to sunset time. All outdoor session will be shot during these times of day.

Indoor sessions - such as at home sessions or newborn sessions can be done at varius times throughout the day depending on when works best for you.

3. How far in advance do we need to book a session?

My recommendation is always to secure your date as early as you can so that you can have the date that works best for you and your family and have ample time to prepare for your session. Sunday and Friday sessions are always booked way in advance so my recommendation is that if those days are preferred to you, you book them 2/3 months in advance. Week day sessions should be booked at least three weeks in advance.

6. When is the ideal stage to schedule a maternity session?

My recommendation is to aim to be photographed between week 25-32. Of course each pregnancy is individual and some woman show earlier on and some woman later so this isn't concrete.

We want you to be showing but feeling good enough to have a session that will involve walking, sitting on the ground etc…

8.Can we have outfit changes?

Of course! I love when clients bring clothing changes, it give so much diversity to their sessions. Just take into consideration the length of your session so that we can have time for everything. Try to pick outfits that are easy to change in and out of.

9. What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?

Of course if there is an emergency or sudden illness we can reschedule your session. Once a deposit is signed changes to the session MUST be made prior to 36 hours of your session. Within one week  hours of your session if there is a cancellation or change your deposit will not be refunded.

10. What if we don’t know how to pose or be photographed?

You do not need to pose or have any experience in front of the camera before coming to a session. I make it my job to make you guys as comfortable with the experience as possible. I make sure to help guide you so that you feel comfortable but also let the real moments happen on their own.

11. Do you use props?

I dont use props, you dont need props for beautiful photos, nature, your family and the perfect lighting is all that you need, trust me.

12. Do you do cake smashes?

I do not shoot cake smashes, in my experience they aren't a pleasant experience for the baby or parents. They usually results in tears and your little one being pushed to eat cake they don't want. There are so many ways to take special photos that commemorate this huge milestone.

13. What happens if it rains on the day of our session?

Depending on the forecast sometimes well wait until the day of to see if the weather clears up and enables us to have our session, clients can opt for a cozy at home session or we can postpone our session to a later date.

14. When is the ideal time for newborn photos?

The ideal time for photos is as soon as you are prepared! I try to recommend to do them as early on as possible preferably within the first 15 days of baby's life when they are still calm and sleepy, but we also want mama to feel well enough to have photos taken.

15. When is the ideal time for photos?

I get asked all the time when is the ideal time to book a shoot for babies and families so I will start with this, it is always a good time for photos! Your moments are fleeting and capturing them at every stage ensure you can hold onto them for a lifetime. However within that there are times that are more ideal, for instance the start of life- newborn photos are a great fist session, once that stage passes the next time for photos can be once baby is sitting up, smiling and interacting (around 6 months old), then one years old, then every year following is great!
